Atiku commissions Bayelsa House in Abuja

BAYELSA House in Abuja was yesterday commissioned by Vice President Atiku Abubakar with Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State challenging all Izon sons and daughters to stand up and rise above the misfortunes of the past.

ABUJA - BAYELSA House in Abuja was yesterday commissioned by Vice President Atiku Abubakar with Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa State challenging all Izon sons and daughters to stand up and rise above the misfortunes of the past.

He said "let our past, which has repeatedly been misrepresented, prove to be fortuitous lesson for our present reality of sustaining our march to progress as a people."

Speaking during the formal commissioning of the Bayelsa House in Abuja, the governor said, "It is time to assert our manhood. Our destiny can only be ensured by building solid structures that can sustain our agitation for equality.

"I want to bring it to the knowledge of all that as a government, we have never failed to identify with the wishes and aspirations of our people. Our policies and programmes are people-oriented, designed principally for their comfort and hospitality.

"By our historical pedigree, we are a republican people. We believe in the power and glory of the house concept. Besides, we have never tarried in our duty to protect, promote and project the overall interest of the Izon nation. That is why till date, the house system in all Izon communities is a permanent reality. Our war canoes, boat regattas, are built around this concept."

Describing the Bayelsa House, christened ‘‘Izon Wari'' as a definite identity of unity and oneness for the Izon, the governor said, ‘‘it is our strong belief that the ‘‘Izon Wari'' will symbolize our flag-ship, our vessel of strength and endurance, in Nigeria''s territorial waters."

"Against the wish of bookmakers and dubious fortune tellers, the peaceful climate of the state has continued to attract investors and holiday makers in their numbers."

Also on the occasion, Vice President Atiku Abubakar advised states government with liaison offices in Abuja to use such buildings to generate revenue saying they (structures) should not be treated as white elephant projects.

He called on people of the state to continue to support the governor adding that, "this building should not be allowed to decay just like any other so-called government project."
