AUTHORITIES of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, are demanding payment for the loss suffered in the hands of students of the Anwai campus of the Delta State University (DELSU) who vandalized the hospital during last Friday's riot over the death of one of the students.

Already, the hospital management said it is quantifying the damage, which would be sent to the authorities of DELSU to compel the students to pay for it.
Spokesman of the Federal Medical Centre, Mr. Ogbogu Nnamdi told Vanguard "we are compiling the damage and would by Monday (today) send it to the university authority."
He had already denied the claim by the rampaging students that doctors of the hospital contributed to the death of the student by refusing to attend to him, saying that "the student was brought in dead and the campus doctor and the SSS operative attached to the campus and a student cadet who accompanied the body can attest to this."
Over five vehicles parked in the hospital including louvers, the hospital gates and other property were either destroyed or vandalized during the riot.
While one account had it that the mayhem was sparked off following a fight between two rival cult groups in the campus, another account stated that commotion started, when on Thursday night, a group of armed robbers raided the campus dispossessing students of money and valuables.
This account had it that during the raid, a student was shot and was quickly rushed to the FMC Asaba for medical attention but was allegedly not attended to by the doctors on duty leaving him to bleed to death. As a result of the incident, according to the account, the angry students mobilized themselves on Friday morning and stormed the hospital damaging anything at sight.
But the claim of robbery attack was dismissed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Miss Olabisi Okuwobi, who attributed the incident to the handiwork of cultists from the school.
Among the over 20 students so far arrested in connection with the riot is the Students Union President, Mr. Ade Sampson.
Delta Govt imposes curfew
Meanwhile, the Delta State government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Abraka, where the main campus of DELSU is located.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan said that Government's action had become necessary in view of security reports indicating that there is growing tension and apprehension in the city of Abraka.
