The Secretary of EMOLGA Education Authority, Hon. Lucky Worlu has inaugurated three committees to work out effective modalities for the implementation of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Scheme in the area.

The Committees are: Food and Health; Infrastructure, Maintenance and Renovation Committee and Statistics of pupils and Teachers committee.

During the inaugural meeting, Hon Worlu explained the importance of the UBE project, informing that the scheme was the brainchild of the Federal Government in collaboration with the states to enhance the growth and standard of education in Nigeria noting how President Obasanjo has been giving education the much-required attention in his agenda of programmes.

He also commended the Rivers Governor, Dr. Peter Odili for winning the award of excellence as the best South-South UBE State Governor in the federation, stating that the on-going UBE reform in the Rivers State Primary Schools Board was a welcome development especially in this present political dispensation.

Worlu pointed out that Hon. Emeka Woke, Chairman of the council ensures that the UBE scheme works well as in other parts of the country and therefore, the people of the area should see it as very fundamental, calling on parents, teachers and education supervisors to join hands together for the success of the scheme.

The Education secretary expressed regrets that due to lack of proper orientation, co-ordination and lackadaisical attitude of both parents and teachers towards the education of the youths, private school proprietors have taken over the educational system, making it so much expensive for the common man.

To complement the state and FG, the secretary charged members of the various committees to see their appointment as a collective responsibility for the service of their people and for the development of the communities in EMOLGA and not for selfish motive, lamenting that youth restiveness, lawlessness and frauds have been associated with community chiefs who could not have up to their expectations, due to passionate quest for quick riches.

Responding, Mr S. O. Atata, the Head of Statistics of Pupils and Teachers Committee expressed appreciation to the State government for the opportunity given to him to serve in such important capacity, promising to do his best in fashioning out a function capable of creating value to the scheme.

Also in appreciation, the Chairman of the Committee on Infrastructure, Maintenance and Renovation, Chief R. A. Keje, expressed delight for the appointment, stating that the recognition must be taken as a challenge for him and his members to serve the people of EMOLGA sincerely, courageously and with the fear of God.

Secretary of Food and Health Committee, Hon. Obinna Okparaolu represented the Chairperson of the Committee, Mrs Ngozi A. Uchendu, the wife of Hon. Andrew Uchendu. Member Fed. House of Representatives, who was unavoidably absent from the occasion.
