Mikel impasse hits Nigeria

Manchester United John Obi Mikel may be prevented from representing Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier against Algeria due to an impasse with his club Lyn.

The 18-year-old is at the centre of a transfer dispute involving Chelsea and Manchester United and despite Fifa's orders he has still not returned to his Norwegian club.

The player's agent, John Shittu, claimed the player was unable to return due to a visa complication however that assertion has been dismissed by the secretary of the Norwegian embassy.

Dag P. Halvorsen told VG: "I can confirm that the papers are here ready at the Embassy.

"However, no John Obi Mikel has appeared to collect the documents."

This latest development has infuriated Lyn who's director Morgan Anderson is ready to block Mikel playing for his country unless he first returns to Oslo.

"We have told Fifa and the Nigerian FA that Mikel is not allowed to play against Algeria next week unless he first appears in Oslo.

"Shittu has not kept his promise that Mikel would come back after the last international."
