Surprise! Chukwu still works for Eagles

SUSPENDED Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Christian Chukwu is still working behind the scene to see that the Eagles pick a place in the World Cup in Germany next year. He is still unruffled about his predicament even as he reinstated his optimism that the Eagles will land in Germany.

Chukwu who was suspended by the football house and replaced with his assistant Augustine Eguavoen said yesterday that he was still working from behind the scene and has been having an excellent working relationship with his successor. "Things are moving on well and I'm always briefed by Eguavoen. We have a good working relationship.

We communicate from time to time", Chukwu who captained Nigeria to her first Nations Cup victory in 1980 said. Amazed with the way he talks eloquently about the Super Eagles, one reminded him if he was still not aware that he has been suspended by the NFA. "All the talk about suspension I read in the papers. They are news to me. As I speak with you, I have not been communicated to with any letter about my suspension.

What that means is that I am still around the Eagles", he said. Strange as the attitude of the NFA may be, Chukwu reasoned that his contract with the FA would expire in August of 2006. "I've a contract that has not been revoked. I have not been sacked. My suspension is only in the newspapers. My brother, I am only praying for the qualification of the Eagles.

That is paramount to me and to Nigerians", the former Coach of the Harambee Stars of Kenya said. He informed Sports Vanguard that he has waved off many offers coming his way since the news of his suspension hit the waves. "Offers have been coming my way but there is no way I can accept any offer when my contract is still on. I want to serve my fatherland and see off my contract", the former skipper of Rangers International added.
