Victor Egbo Obincehe and Efe Canice, both Nigerians, were yesterday punished severely by Amina Saho Ceesay of the Banjul Magistrates' Court, after being found guilty of currency counterfeiting.
Victor Egbo Obincehe and Efe Canice, both Nigerians, were yesterday punished severely by Amina Saho Ceesay of the Banjul Magistrates' Court, after being found guilty of currency counterfeiting.
The magistrate sentenced Victor Egbo Obincehe to a fine of D7,000, in default to serve nine months imprisonment on both counts one and two. On count three, he was sentenced to one year imprisonment, without an option of a fine and is to be deported after serving his jail term. As for Efe Canice, the second accused, he was sentenced to a fine of D10,000, in default to serve one year imprisonment.
Both accused had been standing trial for counterfeiting the sum of US$81, 200. During the trial, Efe Canice pleaded guilty to all the three-count charges preferred against him, but Victor pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Saho Ceesay, in giving her judgement, told the court that the prosecution have proved their case beyond all reasonable doubt and she had therefore no option but to deal with the culprits accordingly.
