Crescent Varsity Appoints Lasisi VC


The Governing Council of Crescent University, Abeokuta has ratified the appointment of Professor Razaq Afolabi Lasisi as the Vice Chancellor of the university.

The Governing Council of Crescent University, Abeokuta has ratified the appointment of Professor Razaq Afolabi Lasisi as the Vice Chancellor of the university.

The appointment of Lasisi which was ratified at the inaugural meeting of the council of last week was said to have presided over by Prince Bola Ajibola.
A release issued by the registrar of the institution, Mrs. S.O Adedipe said the appointment of Lasisi, which took effect from July 2005, would be for a period of two years in the first instance.

Lasisi, who was born 62 years ago, according to the release, bagged his first degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, United States of America in 1966 and bagged his Masters Degree in Structural Engineering in 1967 from the same University.

'He worked as a structural engineer in Seattle, Washington for two years before joining the University of Ife (now OAU) as a lecturer in 1969," the release explained.

The release added that the vice-chancellor of the first Muslim University in Southern Nigeria obtained his doctorate degree in 1974 at the University of Wisconsin USA and became a professor of agricultural engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1984.

He was the pioneer vice-chancellor of the University of Uyo between 1991 and 2000, and served as the chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC) in 1996.
A fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineers, Nigerian Society of Engineers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers, Lasisi had served as the chairman of the Ogun State Agricultural Development Corporation between 1987 and 1990 as well as the Unife consultancy services.

Meanwhile, the university is to begin its first academic session from October 2005 into three Colleges of Information and Communication Technology, Natural and Applied Sciences and Management and Social Sciences.

The release further disclosed that the Governing Council of the university has embarked on the recruitment of staff and the admission of students to its degree programmes.
