ASABA — THE crisis in Aniocha North Local Government Area in Delta State over union activities has deepened as the workers kick ed against the purported suspension of 14 of their workers said to have masterminded the sacking of the branch leadership of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) led by Comrade Roy Umunnah.
They have, in addition to the protest, written to the bank freezing the accounts of the union with immediate effect pending the resolution of the crisis.
Rising from an emergency meeting, the workers described the suspension of the 14 members as ordered by the NULGE State Executive as "nullity", insisting that they would not shift ground in their passing a vote of no confidence on the Comrade Roy Umunnah-led executive.
In a communiqué signed by 215 workers of the council at the end of the meeting presided over by Comrade Emmanuel Onyeyai, the workers stated that"following the refusal of the branch executive to honour the call by workers to address them and get them informed about the general state of the branch and the union at large and following the myriad of allegations arising from the workers against the leadership among which are issues of accountability, divisive tendencies and general failure of representative principles, the House has set up an Investigation Committee to investigate all the allegations and make recommendations to the general congress."
The communique made available to Vanguard yesterday also stated "that a letter be sent to the branch union’s bankers, Zenith Bank Plc, Asaba branch, that the union’s account with the bank be freezed with immediate effect and till further notice".
The State executive of NULGE headed by Comrade Olumami Oyibo had earlier ordered the suspension of 19 members, for a period of ten years, 14 of them from Aniocha North Local government council for alleged anti-union activities.
