Gombe State Com-missioner for Youth and Students Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Yayari has debunked the speculation that the ministry was created by the governor, Alhaji Danjuma Goje to campaign for his 2007 governorship election.
Yayari while answering reporters' questions after a press briefing, said the government set up the ministry to assist youth associations in the state.
According to Yayari, the governor had the intention of establishing the ministry since 2004 when he attended a National Youth Forum at Abuja.
He argued that the governor believed that since there is the Ministry of Women Affairs, government at the state level should have Ministry of Youth.
He said:'I don't think the government established this ministry for any campaign purpose but to assist youth to be self reliant in the state. It is not true that the governor will use this ministry to campaign for 2007 election.
'In fact, he conceived the idea at a national youth forum in Abuja where he suggested the need for the Ministry of Youth in the state".
He disclosed that already his ministry had registered 1,060 associations in the state and that government was determined to empower them.
'I have visited some of these associations and government will try to assist them to make them self reliant".
The commissioner also said government would increase the scholarship allowance of Gombe State students in tertiary institutions all over the country, adding that the proposal would soon be submitted to government.
Yayari believed Goje administration had done very well and urged the people of the state to co-operate with government.
