OWERRI - IRKED by the apparent poor economic base of Okigwe people, a non-governmental organization, Olu-Okigwe Cultural Association, has established a multi million naira revolving interest free loan in Okigwe senatorial zone.
Announcing this during a public presentation of the association's certificate of incorporation in Okigwe, Imo State Deputy Governor, Chief Ebere Udeagu, a water engineer, pleaded with the leadership of the organisation to immediately work out the guidelines for the disbursement of the loan to needy individuals.
'It is a thing of joy that the Corporate Affairs Commission has finally registered Olu-Okigwe Cultural Association, as well as issued a certificate of incorporation to the body. It is also a thing of joy that we now have a competent platform that can speak on behalf of Okigwe people", Chief Udeagu said.
While calling for peace and patience among the citizenry, Udeagu also reasoned that without an enduring peace, development would be a mirage.
It was his considered opinion that the time was ripe for Okigwe people to help themselves, pointing out that the revolving loan scheme was one of the measures to improve the economy of the zone and welfare of the people.
He raised alarm that some indigenes of Okigwe senatorial zone, in concert with other people from within and outside Imo State, are bent on destroying the cordial relationship existing between Okigwe and Orlu, pleading that they should not be allowed to have their way.
Speaking earlier, the President General of the Association, Chief Mark Agomuo, a lawyer, expressed regret that those who were not successful during the last election, decided to form a splinter group of the Association.
'The certificate issued to us is in perpetuity. Okigwe is one indivisible entity. We are extending our arm of friendship and brotherliness to all those who inadvertently found themselves on the other side to retrace their locus. We will gladly welcome them to the fold", Agomuo said.
