Barrister Promise Iwezor gave this charge when the Obio/Akpor chapter of the Niger Delta Youth for Peace visited him last Saturday in his office in Port Harcourt.
He said: "You owe it as a duty to talk about peace in your families and community. If you don't have peace at home, you will not preach outside. Through peace you will get what you need. When you preach peace, when you embark on peaceful process, those things you have been looking for over the years will come to you naturally."
Fellow advocates of peace, I want you to go back home and begin to talk about peace because we will achieve a lot. Let us see how peace can come to stay. Let us see how we can change the Niger Delta".
He stated that any peace effort is demanding and expensive but the only way to realize it is to hold dialogue with parties involved in any crisis.
Barrister Iwezor who is the National President of the body warned the peace advocates and members of the Niger Delta youth for peace to stop mixing politics with their peace mission.
In his words: "Political ideology and peace ideology are never the same. I want you to keep away from politics and concentrate on peace and conflict resolution. In fact, any of you who has an intention to venture into politics should think twice".
The national president of the group pointed out that the body has intervened and resolved crises in Ondo, Delta and other Niger Delta states and that they have been able to ask the parties to sign a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU), adding that the peace advocates in the Niger Delta have presented a proposal to NDDC on how to ensure a comprehensive and sustainable peace in the region, stressing that the media should also help in the peace projects.
He urged members of the Obio/Akpor chapter of the Niger Delta Youth for Peace to live in peace and project the property in their area's as well as strive for things that will better their future. He lauded the chapter for the official visit.
Earlier, the president of the Obio/Akpor chapter of the body, Mr. Amadi Worlu has assured the peace group that he will not drag the name of the association into the mud.
