Danagogo commends NUJ on assessment tour


The chairman of Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State, Hon. (Barr.) Tammy Wenike Danagogo has commended the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for initiating a forum to assess the performance by grassroots leadership in the state.

Hon. Danagogo gave this commendation when the executives of the state chapter of the NUJ paid him a courtesy call in his office at Abonnema.
The council boss expressed happiness at the exercise saying it would put political leaders at council level on their toes and bring about accountability.

He remarked that criticisms and advice from men of the Fourth Estate of the Realm have helped to keep leaders alert to their responsibilities and thanked the press for publicizing the problems and achievements of the council.

Hon. Danagogo promised to do more than what he has achieved in the past one year and thanked the governor of the state, Sir (Dr.) Peter Odili for his fatherly assistance as well as appreciating the problems of the people of AKULGA.

Earlier in his address, the state chairman of the Nigerian Union Journalists, Mr. Benneth Kalio had on behalf of journalist in the state commiserated with the council boss on the demise of his beloved wife and urged him to remain strong in spirit to be able to bear the loss.

Mr. Kalio commended Hon. Danagogo for his impressive achievements so far and urged him to maintain the tempo especially in the area of cordial relationship between the council and the union as evident in his assistance to the body during the last press week celebration.

In the same vein, Hon. (Barr.) Danagogo has called on religions leaders in the state to preach against social ills.

The council boss made this call while delivering a keynote address on the occasion of a 3-day ministers conference for Pastors of Churches in AKULGA, ASALGA and DELGA, which took place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Abonnema.
He urged them to continue the fight against social ills in the homes, churches and the nation as a whole.

He stressed the importance of the theme of the conference which is "combating Idolatory and witchcraft" and urged them to take the conference seriously, assuring them of his administration's commitment to the growth of the ministry.

In his message, the guest preacher, Dr. Steve Ogan urged the ministers to study the history of the people in order to effectively minister unto them.
He stated that one of the redemptive gifts of the Kalabari's is intellect and called on the people to use it to better the lot of the state and the country at large.
