2 Killed in Varsity Cult Clash

At least two persons have been killed and three others seriously injured following a clash between two rival cult groups from Ambrose Alli University (A.A.U.) Ekpoma in Edo State, between Tuesday evening and Wednesday.

At least two persons have been killed and three others seriously injured following a clash between two rival cult groups from Ambrose Alli University (A.A.U.) Ekpoma in Edo State, between Tuesday evening and Wednesday.

THISDAY gathered that the dead and injured received gunshots at a popular pub at Ekpoma, where members of a campus cult group, known as The Black Axe, were reportedly holding a party.

According to the report, a young man who was believed to belong to another rival cult, the Eiye fraternity, strayed into the said party hall before realising that he was in the midst of so called “enemies”.

The uninvited guest was said to have eventually attempted to leave unnoticed by the organizers but was spotted and attacked, receiving machete cuts in the process.

The said intruder however managed to escape, alerted his own cult-members who wasted no time in organising a counter attack, storming the party and firing into the dancing hall. No fewer than five persons were hit while two of them reportedly died on the spot.

State police command spokesman, who confirmed the story to newsmen in Benin yesterday, assured that security agencies were working hard to bring normalcy to the university town and bring culprits behind the incident to book.
Similarly security surveillance had been ordered in all higher institutions in the state, the police spokesman added.
