Peter Obi puts PDP in disarray

STILL savouring his victory at the Anambra Election Petitions Tribunal which recently nullified the election of Gov. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) flagbearer, Mr Peter Obi is facing fresh plots to undermine his victory.

Sources at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja told Sunday Champion that confusion has engulfed the party over the nullification of Gov Chris Ngige's election by the tribunal last week.

The party's leadership is said to be confused over alleged emergence of powerful political blocs lobbying it for support if the Appeal Court annuls the Anambra State governorship election. Ngige had last Monday appealed against the judgement of the tribunal.

But in a swift reaction, the National Chairman of the Party, Col Ahmadu Ali said there was no confusion in the party declaring that the "PDP is a law abiding party".

Ali who spoke through his Special Assistant, Media, Mr Theophilus Abba said he was not aware of any "confusion or lobbying for anybody's position because the court has not finished its work yet"

He said that the PDP was waiting for the ruling of the court on Anambra governorship election and anybody who is lobbying is wasting his time because, the matter is still in court and the PDP will abide by the judgement of the curt".

Governor Ngige has appealed the judgement of the Justice Nabruma Tribunal which nullified his election as the governor of Anambra State and awarded it to Chief Peter Obi of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

However, Sunday Champion investigations at the PDP secretariat revealed some confusion over "who will take over from Ngige as PDP's candidate if the Appeal Court nullifies the entire election".

It was learnt that whereas some groups have already started lobbying for Mr Phil Agbasi who was the second runner up in the election, some others are said to be rooting for "a strong candidate from Chief Chris Uba's camp".

It was learnt that the "pull and lobbying have been so intense that the national leadership is actually confused over the whole issue".

But Ali through his aide has dismissed the allegation saying that "lobbyists are wasting their time because the court has the final say on the case and not the PDP".
