Govt generosity to federal agencies is to foster Dev-Toby


The Rivers State Government says its generosity to the various federal government agencies operating in its domain is informed by the need to foster development at all levels in the state.

The State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby stated this when members of the Board of Management of the University of Port Harcourt 'reaching hospital (UPTH) led by its chairman, Major-General Emmanuel Abisoye (rtd) visited him at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The University of port Harcourt, Sir Toby noted, has continued to enjoy the magnanimity of the Odili administration because of its belief that majority of the staff are indigenes and the school is on our land.

Reflecting on government's commitment to qualitative health care delivery, he said the present administration is spending over N2 billion to transform the state-owned Braithwaite Memorial Hospital so that it can properly complement the UPTH in health care delivery.

Sir Toby who commended the appointment of Major-General Abisoye, a one-time health minister hoped that the efforts of the board would galvanize the desire of the federal government towards completing the permanent site of the UPTH.
Earlier, the chairman of the UPTH management board, retired Major-General Emmanuel Abisoye had said that plans were afoot to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the hospital on August 27.

According to him, President Olusegun Obasanjo had directed the formal opening UPTH at the end of this year and solicited tile support of the state government and other stakeholders to it complete the Teaching Hospital on time.
