Redirect youths against cultism, Toby tells Christians

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby has called on Christians to come together with the aim of redirecting the focus of youths who have strayed into cultism and other anti-social vices.

Rivers State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby has called on Christians to come together with the aim of redirecting the focus of youths who have strayed into cultism and other anti-social vices.

The Deputy Governor made the call while addressing Christian faithfuls at the harvest thanksgiving service of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Bakana.
He said already, the state government had taken pro-active steps to check idleness and restiveness among youths and called on Christians to partner with government in the task of redirecting the youths.

Sir Toby who frowned at the way young people have allowed themselves to be the epicentre of problems in the society, said the frequency with which these vices occur had made it imperative for Christians to "go down on our knees to save our generation".

According to him, "most of the times we derail because we have not been faithful in the worship of God", and urged parents to teach their children to serve God.

Sir Toby said they way and manner the youths now carry guns, suck blood, kill and maim their fellow human beings show how much they have lost touch with their Creator and appealed to parents to provide the missing link that would re-unite them with God.

His words; "The lessons of harvest is one to take to heart and for us in this state, it is a clarion call to put God first in all we do".
The deputy governor who read the first lesson at the service thanked God for the vibrancy that has returned to St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Bakana and urged members of the church to join in the crusade to return youths to the path of rectitude.

In his sermon, the Archdeacon of the Kalabari North Archdeaconry, Venerable Rufus Etire said harvest times were special in Christendom as it enabled faithfuls to give thanks to God.

Ven. Etire who took his scriptures from Proverbs chapter three verse nine, said "we have no better way of serving God than honouring Him with our substances", pointing out that God deserves honour as the source of our health.
He said there was no ceasing in serving God because as he puts it, "If you honour God, He will not forsake you but bless you exceedingly.
