Women charged to embrace rural literacy project


Rural women in Rivers State have been charged to embrace the Rural Women Literacy project of the Government to better their lots in the society.

The charge was given recently at Rukpokwu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by the Co-ordinator of Rural Women Literacy project in the State, Dr. Priye lyalla-.Amadi.

Dr. lyalla-Amadi appealed to women who did not have the opportunity for formal education to utilize this great opportunity created by Dr. Peter Odili to be educated.

She said the project has a total enrolment of about 900 " across the three Senatorial Districts of the State, pointing out that it is the Government's desire to aid them in this direction.

Dr. lyalla-Amadi said the major problem facing the project is the age bracket of participants, which led to their visual problems and she urged Local Government Councils in the State to write off the cost of eye lens of those from their respective local government areas.

Also speaking, Dr. Eric Chikweru Amadi who is a lecturer at the Rivers State College of Education, Rumuolumeni thanked Governor Peter Odili for what he is doing in the State, pointing out that Rukpokwu is enjoying steady power supply.
He advised the women to take their studies seriously and urged the Chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, Barr. Nyesom Wike to provide the women with reading glasses.
