10 arraigned for plotting communal war


TEN persons have been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate Court, at Tapa for allegedly promoting an inter communal war against Idacha-Iyesi family of Ilogbo village in Badagry area of Lagos State.

LAGOS - TEN persons have been arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate Court, at Tapa for allegedly promoting an inter communal war against Idacha-Iyesi family of Ilogbo village in Badagry area of Lagos State.

The accused persons, including a 65 year old man, Baale Ajose Dasun were also accused of conspiracy and assault of five senior police officers.

Others being tried alongside Baale Dasun include Job Ogunbiyi (54 yrs); Samson Akinyemi; Babatunde Dasun (52); Timothy Boton (46); Jacob Kaju (42); paul Daniel (27); Durojaiye Posu (35); Sunday Oke (41); and Idowu Seketo (46).

According to the prosecution, the accused persons committed the offence on March 16, 2001 in violation of section 516 of the Criminal Code Law Cap 17, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

Before their arraignment, a Lagos High Court judge, Justice H.A.O. Abiru had granted the Idelegbede Chieftaincy family of Ilogbo Eremi leave to enter and carry out a survey of their land at Badagry without any interruption or disturbance from anyone, including the suspects currently being tried in court.

Attempt to stay the execution of the judicial pronouncement also failed as the court dismissed the application for incompetence.

The policemen were alleged to have been invited by a family to curb the nefarious activities of some land speculators in the area before they were violently attacked and their riffles seized.
