Supporters ‘mob' Kalu…As he inspects work on Abia liaison office in Abuja

Supporters in their hundreds, Wednesday, thronged the Abia State Abuja liaison office complex under construction to pledge their support for Governor Orji Uzor Kalu over his presidential ambition while he was inspecting the pace of work at the place.

Supporters in their hundreds, Wednesday, thronged the Abia State Abuja liaison office complex under construction to pledge their support for Governor Orji Uzor Kalu over his presidential ambition while he was inspecting the pace of work at the place.

Chanting songs and slogans in support of Kalu's presidential ambition, the supporters trooped into the premises, shouting, 'Sai Kalu!, Kalu for president, Kalu is our man!"

One of them, who gave his name simply as John, told Daily Sun that he works in one of the construction sites close by. "I just feel I should praise this man because they said he is good and I believe that he can be president of Nigeria," he said as he dashed to meet others as the governor approached.

Kalu, who was in Abuja to inspect the N1billion Abia State Liaison Office Complex building, expressed satisfaction at the pace of work done. About N600million has been expended on the project, which will be completed in April 2006.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the inspection, which saw the Abia strong man running up the staircase of the complex, Kalu said the gigantic structure will be his gift to the people of Abia State by the time he leaves office.

"You can see that the building is going on very fine despite what people and some politicians are saying, that I am busy traveling and not working. Am on course and it is a legacy I want to leave for the people of Abia State," Kalu declared while waving his hands to drive home his point.
Dressed in a blue jeans and a yellow long sleeved top, Kalu denied insinuations that he was behind the Bakassi Boys' scourge. According to him, "the president asked me not to sign the law and I didn't. Most importantly, we do not believe in killing."
Located at the heart of Abuja, the Abia State Liaison Office, whch is also surrounded by no fewer than four liaison offices, according to the governor, will be one of the biggest edifices in the federal capital, on completion.
