As part of its annual activities, Macedonian Initiative on August 2 handed over cheques for the pupils and students in Kaduna and Kano states who are beneficiaries of its scholarship scheme.
The annual award goes to over forty-two orphaned children in the states. The team moved to Kano the next day for the state's awards. The scholarship programme is done in phases in order to accommodate the growing number of beneficiaries.
The Macedonian Initiative is a humanitarian organization set up with the goal of assisting individuals or groups of individuals who have been displaced as a result of needless tribal and religious clashes across the country.
The main objectives of the organization are to assist the victims of this unfortunate incidence by providing relief, counselling, rehabilitation and reconstruction, while creating an enabling environment by sensitising the populace and relevant authorities in order to help them.
According to Mrs. Jaclyn Offiah, the director of the organisation 'we give priority to orphans and widows. Our vision is to create a Nigeria where everyone would live together in peace, love and harmony".
As part of its objectives towards assisting the victims, the Macedonian Initiative administers scholarship to children of widows and orphans who lost their parents in religious or ethnic crises.
Mrs. Offiah said a cursory look at the school results of the students showed that 'some of them have been outstanding. Our plan is to seek the support of corporate bodies who will be interested in sponsoring these kids, some of whom are about to enter the university and some are undergraduates already".
