Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu has warned that soon, possession of the national identity card would be a prerequisite to enjoying amenities or transacting business with the state.

Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu has warned that soon, possession of the national identity card would be a prerequisite to enjoying amenities or transacting business with the state.

The governor stated this yesterday while flagging off distribution of the identity cards. He appealed to all residents to go out enmasse to collect the cards.

He charged residents to demonstrate same level of efforts and commitment that they demonstrated during the registration process in February 2003, into the collection process so that they could enjoy dividends of democracy which the state was providing.

He also appealed to the Directorate of Civic Registration to ensure that the collection process was made less cumbersome and ensure that very easy means existed by which those who failed to register during the 2003 edition or had just turned 18 could use in order to be registered.

Tinubu congratulated President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Federal Government for successfully resuscitating the moribund ID card scheme after being on the drawing board for 27 years.

'With the introduction of national identity cards which also serves as trackers for adequate planning, the federal government now has the unique opportunity to plan adequately for the people.
