Parents and Guardians in the state have been urged to take full advantage of Governor Peter Odili's Free School Bus Scheme to reduce the burden of transport fares for their children and wards to the barest minimum.
Making the call in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the State Co-ordinator of the Free School Bus Scheme, Mr Feddy Inimgba said that the call was necessitated by the need for parents and guardians to always see themselves as part and parcel of the Scheme.
Mr. Inimgba said that the willingness of parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to get up early, tidy up their domestic chores and leave for school before 7:30 in the morning was integral to the realization of the objectives that engendered the government of Dr. Peter Odili to set up the Scheme.
Mr. Inimgba who explained that the programme was the first of its kind in the country enjoined the people of the State to always appreciate the huge financial commitment of Governor Peter Odili in the sustenance of the Scheme, stressing that it is only then that the present administration in the State will be encouraged to provide succour in other areas of need for the people.
The Coordinator used the opportunity to call on youths in the State to emulate the sense of duty and selfless service of one Mr. Emeka Onuoha of Ohaobu-Ndoki in Abia State in volunteering to assist school children at the Education Bus Stop to board the Free School Bus in the morning and after school in an orderly manner, whom he said was recently honoured by his management.
Mr. Inimgba who said that the honour done Mr. Onuoha was well deserved said that it was put together in the spirit of the government of Dr. Peter Odili, whom he described as a great apostle of selfless service to humanity.
According to Mr. Inimgba, Mr. Onuoha has been placed on a monthly allowance by the management of the Free School Bus Scheme, stressing that the allowance will be sustained as long as Mr. Onuoha continues to show commitment and dedication to the welfare of the school children, adding that his management was favourably disposed to work with persons committed to selfless service.
