The Rivers State House of Assembly has set up a committee to investigate what might be termed the due process followed that led to the legitimate and constitutional impeachment of the Chairman of Oyigbo local government chairman.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has set up a committee to investigate what might be termed the due process followed that led to the legitimate and constitutional impeachment of the Chairman of Oyigbo local government chairman.
The House which sat last Monday after about a month's study tour abroad has the Oyigbo impeachment matter on the order paper of the day's business.
After some preliminary deliberations by the honourable members, the presiding officer, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi announced that it would be necessary for the House to constitute a committee to investigate the due process followed by the legislative arm of Oyigbo council before the actual impeachment was conducted and pronounced.
According to the Speaker's ruling, the committee is to be headed by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Tonye Harry, while Hon. Chidi Lloyd and Marvis Nle-Ejii, the House's Chief Whip are members.
The committee was therefore charged to liaise with the Clerk of Oyigbo Legislative Assembly to see to the veracity and authenticity of the impeachment procedure.
