Imo govt opens website

Imo state government has opened its own website, thus joining the league of website owners in the country.

Imo state government has opened its own website, thus joining the league of website owners in the country.

Disclosing this at the 32nd post Executive Council briefing, Wednesday, Commissioner for information and culture, Barrister Chris Okewulonu said with the website - www.imostate.gov.ng., the state had joined the ''big boys'' states, adding that Imo State could be assessed from any part of the world. ''We will ensure that our website is completely webbed. We are conscious of the nature of data we put there, not everything will be there '', he assured.
He therefore enjoined anybody eager to get information about the state to visit the website.

The Exco has also extended the dead line given to cattle rearers to move over to the newly constructed ultra modern Okigwe Regional Cattle Market to January 2005. The shift in date, according to the commissioner was possible because some stake holders, like the Hausa Community demanded for it, and this would be the last dead line extension. The Exco therefore advised veterinary officers and those who had anything to do with veterinary to relocate to the new site.

The final opportunity for computerized staff identification programme has been given to ministries in order to document their staff personal data. Facts such as date of birth, date of employment and date of retirement are required. The State Government had in the past checked ghost workers syndrome through this scheme.

Also, the Exco is set to check the high level of indiscipline in the civil service. Such vices as lateness to work, loitering, leaking of official secret, delay in treating files and mails the commissioner said, would not be taken lightly as punishment would be given to defaulters accordingly.

On a sweet note, 11th December 2004 has been fixed, as the date free medical services will be given to Imo people. 35 specialist doctors are expected from America to diagnose, perform surgeries and prescribe drugs to patients. Centres will be at the Federal Medical Centre Owerri and Imo University Teaching Hospital, Orlu.
