LAGOS - Fifteen people have been killed and several others injured when a lorry ran into a crowded market in the south-eastern Nigerian state of Anambra, police have said.
The accident occurred yesterday at Otuocha following a brake failure, a senior police officer, who asked not to be named, said.
"The driver of the lorry was descending a slippery road when he lost control of the vehicle and ran into the Otuocha market, killing 15 people and injuring several others," he said.
He said the bodies of the victims had been taken to the mortuary for identification by their relations.
Accidents occur regularly on Nigeria's poorly maintained roads because of drivers' disregard of traffic regulations and speeding.
