World Cup qualifiers : Onigbinde, Okpala meet NFA

Super Eagles technical backup team, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, Sylvanus Okpala and David Suleiman, on Wednesday met with the board of the Nigeria Football Association on the task of qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup in Germany next year.

Super Eagles technical backup team, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, Sylvanus Okpala and David Suleiman, on Wednesday met with the board of the Nigeria Football Association on the task of qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup in Germany next year.

The trio was recommended by the ministerial committee on Nigeria's qualification for the World Cup to assist coaches of Super Eagles led by Austin Eguavoen.

The team's technical crew have been skeptical about the support group, with fears that it might be overbearing and interfering with technical matters.

The meeting on Wednesday, our correspondent learnt, was chiefly to specify the responsibilities of the back up team in the squad, which has to win the rest of the qualifying matches to brighten its chances of making it to the World Cup.

The Eagles interim Chief Coach, Eguavoen, had said he was not averse to an advisory team to the Eagles, but harped on the need to specify its roles to avoid conflicts.

Spokesman for the NFA, Robinson Okosun, said he would not be able to make any comment until after the meeting.
