Chairman of Pro-National Conference (PRONACO) Chief Anthony Enahoro yesterday said the planned conference would give an opportunity to come out with a valid constitution which would absolutely reflect yearnings of citizens.
Chairman of Pro-National Conference (PRONACO) Chief Anthony Enahoro yesterday said the planned conference would give an opportunity to come out with a valid constitution which would absolutely reflect yearnings of citizens.
Enahoro while briefing reporters on the outcome of his recent trip to America, said delegates at the conference would reach an agreement on essential needs of Nigerians.
"We intend to ask the people what constitution they want. When we get to the conference, we 'll try to establish a consensus of what Nigerians want."
He dismissed insinuations that government might disrupt the conference, affirming that the group was working within provisions of the law and hence any attempt to stop it amounted to undermining rights of the people.
"I have not heard that report.Our lawyers have told us that we are working within the law. I'll be surprised if government is involved in such an enterprise. If the people feel they have to forge ahead, they should not be hindered from doing what is within the law. Any effort to thwart such a programme will be undermining the people."
He disclosed that Nigerians in diaspora were well prepared to participate. According to him, his mission to woo such Nigerians was a great success, because "they received us in large numbers.
'All together, it's been a successful visit. We shall see them at the confab.
They considered themselves detribalised. They said it will be difficult for them to see themselves as Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa. In fact, they considered themselves as Nigerians," he said.
