Worried by incessant traffic congestions aroud the city of Ibadan the state capital, Oyo State government would spend N40bn to decongest the city by constructing an outer ring road.
Briefing newsmen shortly after the executive council meeting in Ibadan yesterday, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Joseph Faniran said the state had met representatives of surveyors that would be handling the project, preparatory to commencement of survey and engineering works.
Faniran said the road, when completed would ease the chaotic traffic situation and facilitate passage for those travelers outside the capital.
He assured that the project would commence soon, adding that it would not however affect the ongoing massive road repairs.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Health, Prof. Arinola Sanya said about 9,550 people with eye problems had benefited from the on-going free eye medical programme.
Sanya said, '6,500 people were screened and given free drugs while about 2,500 were provided with glasses and other expensive drugs."
She said another 550 people suffering from cataracts were given glasses and drugs free of charge with a view to making life more comfortable.
The commissioner said the state was planning to establish a permanent eye camp to cater for people with sight problems.
