Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu to create integrity in the balloting process as a mark of building confidence in the democratic process.

'All eyes are on INEC because if you can make people believe in the sanctity of the ballot box, it would bring integrity, if you fail, people would lose their confidence," Nnamani told Iwu, who was on a visit to the National Assembly.

According to him, the Iwu-led body could deliver a credible poll come 2007. 'We know you can make a mark because you have the team to do the work. You have a strong team. We have implicit confidence in the new INEC. We watched your performance as you stood your ground during your screening showing you can withstand pressure."

Stressing the senate's readiness to expedite action on the revised bill because of its importance, Nnamani told the INEC boss to apply resilience that he exhibited during his screening, to electoral matters so that 'you can create excellence and integrity in the balloting process."
Earlier, Iwu said he visiting the leadership of the senate to express gratitude for the mandate he (Iwu) was given to serve, even as he sought a special budget for the 2007 elections different from the revenue accruable to the commission from appropriation.
Iwu added that INEC would deliver a hitch-free and rig-free election come 2007.
