A 64 year old man, Chief Vincent Ubabuike has been charged to court in an Onitsha Magistrate Court for the alleged kidnapping of a 67 year old man, Chief Augustine Nwagbo who has been missing since May 1, 2005.
AWKA - A 64 year old man, Chief Vincent Ubabuike has been charged to court in an Onitsha Magistrate Court for the alleged kidnapping of a 67 year old man, Chief Augustine Nwagbo who has been missing since May 1, 2005.
Ubabuike was charged for the offence of kidnapping punishable under Section 495[a] of the Criminal code Cap. 36 vol. 11 revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991.
In the Charge No. MO/1097/2005, filed by the Commissioner of Police, Ubabuike was accused of conniving with others at large to kidnap Nwagbo who has been missing for over three months.
In a 2- count charge, the accused was alleged to have committed the following offences:
That you Vincent Ubabuike''m'' and others at large on the 1st of May 2005, at Onitsha Magisterial District, did connive among yourselves to commit an offence punishable under section 495[a] of the criminal code cap. 36 Vol. 11 revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991.
That you Vincent Ubabunike ‘‘m'' on the same date and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did unlawfully imprison one Chief Augustine Nwagbo ‘‘m'' within the State in such a manner as to prevent him from applying to a court for his release or from disclosing to any other person the place where he is imprisoned with the promise to his children that if they give you N 2 million, you will show them their father and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 315[b] of the criminal code Cap. 36 Vol. 11 revised laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991.
When the case came yesterday, the accused was not in court on account of ill health. The Presiding magistrate adjourned the matter to august 15, 2005, for hearing.
