ADO-EKITI—A FACTION of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State yesterday announced the suspension of Governor Ayo Fayose and PDP Chairman in the state, for what it termed misrule and running the state without consulting the elders. Also “suspended” by the faction was the PDP chairman in the state, Mr. Ropo Adesanya. The faction which called itself the authentic PDP is led by one-time governor of the old Ondo State, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua.
The governor’s “suspension” was, however, immediately dismissed as illegal by the state chairman of the party Mr. Ropo Adesanya, and the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Idowu Adelusi.
The PDP faction accused the governor of commencing a fresh move to impeach his deputy, Mr. Abiodun Aluko, and warned to make the state ungovernable if the alleged plot succeeds.
Chairman of the faction, Chief Ojo Falegan, claimed Governor Fayose was running the state as a private company, and without consulting some of them who are founding members of the PDP in the state.
Mr. Aderopo said the meeting where that purported suspension was issued did not receive the blessing of the state executive.
Adelusi on his part said all the allegations against the governor were baseless.
“That outcry against the governor is borne out of envy because the governor has refused to make government business as usual,” he said.
Also contributing, a one time governor of old Ondo State, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua, described present situation in the state as unfortunate, adding that the governor does not have respect for anybody, including traditional rulers in the state.
