Lagos State government yesterday identified unemployment as one of the greatest threats to the peace and stability of any nation. Therefore, it has set up 10 Job Registration Centres.

The state Commissioner for Special Duties, Inter-governmental Relations and Job Creation, Chief Henry Ajomale, disclosed this during a chat with newsmen in his office.

The commissioner said to arrest this growing monster, the state government through his ministry has set up these centres to register youths and miscreants who are willing to learn trade.

Ajomale said the state government believed that to solve the problems of unemployment, it required the concerted effort of corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations and individuals. He called on stakeholders to set up youth empowerment centres to help empower youths in different fields such as painting production, tailoring, wielding, bricklaying and joinery.

He said the prevalence of unrest, touting and insecurity in the nation can be traced to non-availability of gainful employment and skill acquisition centres to train the teaming youths in the nation and to make them self reliance. He said no nation could develop in an atmosphere of youth restiveness and anarchy.

The commissioner revealed that in its determination to teach appropriate and marketable skills that will enable the unemployed young men and women to be self-reliant, and capable of improving the quality of life for themselves and their families, the government, through the Job Creation Department in the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Relations established various vocational training programmes.

He further revealed that a total of 300 youths have successfully completed an intensive training in Photography at one of the skills acquisition center of the State Government while another 250 are undergoing various skill acquisitions program at the Lagos State Polytechnic.

This is a great piece of history, which is dear to our hearts as people and very much appreciated.

Many thanks to the people who worked hard in the past and those who are still making efforts to keep the institution.

The labour is obviouly worth it. We are proud of you all.

A lot still to be done, with the motivation of the champions of this course, others will follow as well to maintain the institution

May God continue to keep the edifice for development of future generations to the glory of God and the benefits of our fatherland.
