Dolphin FC players were among over 200 passengers aboard an Egypt Air flight no. 877 who yesterday escaped death when the take off gear of the plane failed to activate.

Dolphin FC players were among over 200 passengers aboard an Egypt Air flight no. 877 who yesterday escaped death when the take off gear of the plane failed to activate.

The aircraft with passengers from Nigeria, Gabon and Ghana was taxing for take off when the take off gear failed to activate, forcing the plane off the runway.

The plane was carrying a delegation of Dolphin FC of Port Harcourt and the Gabonese FC105 that honoured a CAF match over the weekend.
By press time last night all the passengers had been evacuated to an Egyptian hotel MAVEN PICK.

On board the plane was the chairman Nigerian Referees Association, Dr. Samson Jaja and Calistus C Chukwujekwu,another referee.
Jaja in an interview with THISDAY thanked God and commended the pilot.

"We thank God for his mercy. This is my first exprience. If not for God, we all would have perished. We also commend the exprience of the pilot," he said.

" We give God the praise. is was how the Zambian team perished in 1994 when they went to honour a world cup qualifying match," Chukwujekwu added.
A permanent secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation who does not want to be quoted thanked God for his mercy and love for the safety of all on board.
