Siasia returns, NFA rules on Onigbinde, Okpala

Samson Siasia returned to Nigeria at the weekend after a short holiday in the United States and is prepared to join hands with Austin Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorunmu to execute Nigeria's remaining World Cup qualifiers.

Some media reports had it that Siasia had vowed to withdraw from assisting in the Super Eagles because of the involvement of coach Adegboye Onigbinde. He was said to have confided in some people that he would not want to work with the high chief. This was after false media reports that coach Onigbinde, together with Sylvanus Okpala would back the Eagles' technical crew as technical advisers.

Many Nigerians have misconstrued the appointment as that of technical adviser job to the team and have spoken against it. And for leaving Nigeria without any official notice to the FA and also appearing not to show interest in the new job, the NFA was said to be considering dropping Siasia from the Super Eagles technical crew. This was widely reported in the media at the weekend but NFA chairman, Ibrahim Galadima said yesterday that he had not told anybody that the association was considering leaving out Siasia.

He however confirmed that the association would hold meeting with the Eagles crew in Abuja tomorrow to find solution to the on-going controversy. The briefs of all the personnel would be spelt out and if there are bound to be clashes that may not augur well for the team, the NFA will take a decisive action. The Technical back up team may be put on hold otherwise the jobs of all the technical staff will be spelt out to avoid friction.
