A top aide of Governor Peter Odili has been murdered. Also killed is another man who cannot be identified.
Their death is coming against the background of threats by persons believed to be cultists to target higher up officials of the Rivers State government.
Thus far, only Dr Wachukwu from Egbema appointed as a special aide of the governor has been identified.
The remains of the two persons were dumped at a point close to the newly erected Obiri Ogbako Ikwerre which is at the interception where the new road running to the Port Harcourt International Airport crosses the East West Road.
Commuters whose attention was drawn to the awful sight may have contacted the police.
Our information is that the top echelon of the police moved to the area where they witnessed the gory scene and arranged for the removal of the decomposing bodies.
Until his appointment, Wachukwu was based abroad.
Insiders say that Wachukwu may have played key roles abroad in rallying Rivers people in diaspora behind the Odili second tenure bid in 2003.
After victory went the governor's way, Wachukwu was ordered home to be part of the administration.
But last Saturday, Dr Wachukwu reportedly left his home and never returned.
There is no trace of the identity of the killers for now.
What is known is that the official vehicle in which he was traveling was taken away by his assailants.
Friends and relations of the late aide to the governor are shocked by the killing. They say the man is a kind unassuming personality.
