Wife of the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dame Christie Toby has advised Nigerians to serve their fatherland with genuine heart and creative abilities. She gave the advice at the First Fruit Harvest Thanksgiving Service of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Isiokpo which was also attended by her husband, Sir Gabriel Toby.
Wife of the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dame Christie Toby has advised Nigerians to serve their fatherland with genuine heart and creative abilities.
She gave the advice at the First Fruit Harvest Thanksgiving Service of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Isiokpo which was also attended by her husband, Sir Gabriel Toby.
Dame Toby, who read the only lesson at the service, said the time has come when Nigerians should do their possible best in ensuring the sustenance of peace and the improvement of the society instead of involving in anti-social activities.
According to her, the government of Dr. Peter Odili has placed so much premium on a cult and trouble free society because of its belief that the youths deserve to be encouraged to utilize their best talents in the service of the nation.
"That is why the state government has always advised youths to do only those things that will bring glory to the state", she emphasized and enjoined the youths not to allow themselves to be used as agents of destruction.
While urging them to make sacrifices that would ensure the growth of their communities, states and nation, Dame Toby noted that cultism and other anti-social behaviour will only ruin the future of the youths and reminded them that they owe the younger ones and generations to come more good things than cultism.
"You have to be the pride of your people and the responsibility to do so resides squarely in you", she cautioned.
In his sermon, the Vicar of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Isiokpo, Ven. Blessing Enyindah paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of the Church and urged its members to contribute their quota towards its growth.
Ven. Enyinda reminded Christians of the need to do good in order to make heaven, adding, "God knows what every man does".
"You may have had a good record but the important thing is what God thinks of you and what he records for you", he said.
Highlight of the service was the launching of the book "The Historical Events of St. Peter's Anglican Church Isiokpo", written by Osita Echeonwu and talks about the landmark achievements of priests at the Church including Late Archdeacon O.D.C. Brown, father of the wife of the state Deputy Governor.
