NULGE boss praises chairman on peace initiatives


The chairman of Abua/Odual Local Government Area (ABOLGA) of Rivers State, Hon. Kenigheni Sunday Dema has been commended for cracking down all forms of criminal activities through his peace initiatives, which for now Abua is relatively calm and peaceful.

The chairman has also been lauded for embarking on a gigantic project for a two-storey office building being first in its kind in the history of the local government council.

The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees of the council, Comrade Itode Igoni who made the commendation in a chat with newsmen in Abua Central noted that the council boss has also renovated Agbebi memorial primary school, Arukwu primary school building, state school, Obedum and state school Emelego.

The Nulge boss also spotlighted other areas, which include completion of radio communication system, completion of Otapha comprehensive health centre, completion of staff canteen, completion of office building for primary health care units and the installation of a borehole at Empirikpoko.

On staff welfare, the Nulge boss pointed out that the council chairman implemented the N2, 500 medical bills, payment of 15 months medical arrears owed workers, implementation of 121/2 percent salary increase to workers, implementation of senior staff promotion, payment of staff claims as well as incorporating staff annual leave bonus of 2005 along with salary payment schedule.

The union, however, called on the council chairman to continue to work in compliance with the accord between the branch union and the management to ensure the payment of other outstanding entitlements owed workers including the reactivation of the cold chain system of the NPI unit.

According to Comrade Igoni, NULGE is indeed a responsive trade union that is willing to support the present administration of the council in order to put the local government on the fast lane of development.

The union urged the management of council to ensure the payment of 1st 28 days allowance to deserving staff, conduct junior promotion, implement the harmonized public service salary structure (HAPSS) for health workers and to embark on the building of staff quarters to improve staff attitude to work.
