One-armed robber shot dead in gun duel with security men


ONE armed man, disguised as a Fulani herdsman was at the weekend shot dead and five others sustained gun shot injuries in a shoot-out with the Joint Security network mounted by Policemen and authorities of the Etsako East Local Government during a robbery operation along the Imegba-Okpekpe road in the council area.

Just as the State Police Command headed by Mr Muktar Abass commended the involvement of the Council Chairman,Mr Stanley Odidi in the arrest of bandits disguised as Fulani normads and the donation of two patrol vehicles to the Etsako Division of the command.

Vanguard gathered at the weekend that around 6.30pm on last Friday, a security report was received by the Council Chairman on the robbery operation going on along the Imegba-Okpekpe road. The Chairman, who had formed an alliance with the special squad of the Police Command,alerted the squad and the divisional Officer of the Etsako East.

It was gathered that before they reached the scene of the robbery operation,the armed bandits had disposed traders and other occupants of a commercial bus of their cash and belongings.But the Council Chairman,the Police Team and Some elders of nearby communities received another report on the possible hideout of the bandits and stormed it killing one and five other reportedly escaped with injuries.

Contacted yesterday on the incident,the Council Chairman,Mr Stanley Odidi confirmed it but said the success recorded during the operation was achieved with the support of the communities who supplied information about such operations.

Meanwhile,the State Police Command yesterday through the Chief Supritendent of Police,Mr Peter Abu commended the authorities of the Etsako East Local Government area over the donation of a Peugeout 504 car to the Agenebode division of the command for the effective patrol of the area.
