"Our hope rests on INEC boss"

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) new chairman has been described as a "giver of hope" under whose chairmanship all past electoral anomalies would be made right and corrected.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) new chairman has been described as a "giver of hope" under whose chairmanship all past electoral anomalies would be made right and corrected.

Making these observations during the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)'s unity rally Thursday (July 28) in Owerri, was Chief Simeon Udunka, National Vice Chairman of the party in Owerri, Imo State.

Chief Odunka who was the first National Secretary of the defunct NCPN during the late Abacha administration noted that with the statemanly resolution of the leadership crisis that threatened to rend APGA apart through recognition of Chief Victor Umeh as the authentic acting chairman, the ground is now set for APGA to reclaim its electoral fortunes that were compromised in the last general elections both in the state and federation.

"APGA, South East is grateful to INEC for opening a window of opportunity to consolidate macro-political stability, attract membership and financial aid to our party," Chief Odunka declaimed.

He said that with the reality on ground APGA is now positioned to increase its growth towards improved governance that will result in election victories.

The Imo State APGA vice-chairman also used the unity rally to confirm the appointment of Chief Uche Mbah as acting state chairman with the brief to evolve a creative platform that will re-integrate the old and new membership to put the party on the march once more.

Chief Udunka said, the Owerri Senatorial zone has re-presented Nze Ben T.K. Osuji as APGA's next senatorial flag - bearer in the bi-election coming on a date yet to be announced by INEC.

Chief Udunka said APGA was celebrating because it has overcome undemocratic elements and forces which the ousted chairman Chief Chekwas Okorie represented and that authentic members have once more regained leadership of the party with Dim Odumegwu Chukwuemka Ojukwu as Chairman, Board of Trustees.

"This is APGA's ‘second chance", Chief Odunka declared, adding that it was ‘God-given' and not the work of man.

He said that whatever needs to be done will be done to set the tone for 2007 general elections and vowed that APGA will resist any attempts to change the course of history by the ruling PDP party.
