The Nigerian arrived from Arsenal with a big reputation and was expected to be one of the main men for Albion.
However, Bryan Robson replaced Gary Megson and Kanu was soon quoted as saying that he would consider his future at the club.
"This is true, if I have this chance, I can do more," he suggested to Sky Sports News. "For me, what I have is a lot of things that I really have to show the fans and help the team.
"I don't even know who is there [in attack]. We have five strikers so it depends on the gaffer to make his choice.
"For me, I will keep working hard and giving my best to the team. I am a team player, that's me.
"I want the team to improve.
"If we improve, nobody is going to start saying this [and that]. If we are struggling, it is difficult to notice who is good or about the performance."
Kanu only bagged three goals last term and will be looking to make a bigger impact this time around.
