Man arraigned over N1.3m visa scams


A 30-year old man, Oluwole Lawal has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief magistrate's court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining N1.3 million under false pretence.

A 30-year old man, Oluwole Lawal has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief magistrate's court on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining N1.3 million under false pretence.

Among the charges preferred against the accused as presented by the prosecution was that he (Lawal) with others at large allegedly stole N430, 000 from one Adeleke Osho, on the pretence that he would help the victim procure a German visa.
According to the prosecution, the offence was committed on June 5, 2005 at Ikeja area of Lagos State.

He also accused of obtaining a sum of N280,000 from a middle aged man, Nurudeen Ojubanire, as he assured the victim that he would procure him a German visa.
The names of other victims were given as Chimeke Joseph and Stephen Agidi.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the trial Chief magistrate, Mrs O.A. Adedayo granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties.

In a related development, two men, Abiola Rajumobi and Toyin Ajayi, were arraigned before the same court for allegedly stealing the property of one Mr Osifo Kelvin at CMS Bookshop, Lagos.
Each of the accused persons were allowed bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties.
The sureties the court said must be gainfully employed.
