IN a bid to check absenteeism among council chairmen from their respective Local Government Areas in Bayelsa state, the chairmen are now to take permission from their supervising Commissioner before they can travel out of their councils.
YENAGOA - IN a bid to check absenteeism among council chairmen from their respective Local Government Areas in Bayelsa state, the chairmen are now to take permission from their supervising Commissioner before they can travel out of their councils.
The state governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who gave the directive while swearing in five Special Advisers and Chairmen of caretaker committees of the 24 new Local Government Councils in the state warned that failure by the chairmen to adhere to the directive would earn them sack from office.
Alamieyeseigha who berated the past chairmen as well as the current council chairmen in the state for failing to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people at the grassroots warned that his administration would no longer condone the excesses of the chairmen.
To this end, he directed the state Ministry of Information and Strategy alongside the supervising ministry to organize a workshop in which they will be participants to develop collective and individual plans for the council's development.
His words: "my administration will have no patience for incompetence and there will be zero tolerance for corruption."
In making the plans, there should be periodic milestones that must be met, failing which removal will be automatic. If in addition to incompetence, there is proven case of corruption you shall face prosecution. Do not be a scapegoat and do not test our resolve."
He added, "for those of you who plan to live in Port Harcourt and Warri and Yenagoa, only to collect your monthly local government allocation, I have some news.
"The good news is that this will no longer be possible." You must remain in your local governments at all times. Should you need to travel, report your mission, length of absence and purpose to the supervising commissioner before travelling on condition that the necessary permit has been issued," he said.
