AS Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State last Wednesday officially commissioned the 150 units of two bedroom Ibeshe Housing Estate in Ikorodu area of the state ,the estate is now fully ready for habitation

LAGOS - AS Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State last Wednesday officially commissioned the 150 units of two bedroom Ibeshe Housing Estate in Ikorodu area of the state ,the estate is now fully ready for habitation

Tinubu in his address at the occasion disclosed that the estate was constructed at the total cost of N363.5million stressing that it was the belief of his administration that there should be a basic minimum living standard, that all Nigerians are entitled to irrespective of their status.

His said" The commitment of my administration towards the completion of the project in spite of escalating cost of building materials in the country as well as financial strangulation by the federal government is a clear demonstration of our resolve to invest in the well-being of the people."

According to him, the choice of the area for the siting of the project was informed by the need and in line with his administration's objective of spreading the basic infrastructure to all nooks and crannies of the state to ensure even development for all.

With such project and many others scattered in different parts of the state, he expressed the belief that the administration has laid the foundation for unprecedented growth, development and prosperity of the people.

Tinubu however, used the occasion to restate the determination of his government to complete the Oba Sekumade Road to link the proposed fourth Mainland Bridge, saying the road, which is presently under construction by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) would serve as one of the major means of transforming the Ikorodu area into a modern city.

Citing inadequate finance as one of the major constraints against infrastructural development of the state, Tinubu, stated that government would continue to gear efforts towards the attainment of the primary objective of making every part of the state feel a sense of belonging.

His words: ""Achieving the primary objective of this administration in increasing the available stock supply in the state has not been a bed of roses. Finance is perhaps one of the most apparent problems in the provision of houses, particularly given the exploitation and deprivation suffered by Lagos State in the unjust political economy of Nigeria.

""While this state remains the financial honey pot of Nigeria, producing the bulk of the funds in the federation account, she gets only a pittance in return. Yet we are focused to bear the social and environmental brunt of housing the largest concentration of Nigerians"",

The governor, also acknowledged the valuable contributions and commitment of private sector participants, mortgage institutions and other investors in the housing sub sector for the complementary role they have been playing in the provision of housing for the teeming population of Lagos State.
