The Plateau State Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy, Mr. Manasseh Watyil, has said that the party has uncovered plans by the President Olusegun Obasanjo-led ruling Peoples to hand over to another retired military officer in 2007.

Watyil, who spoke to our correspondent in an interview in Jos on Wednesday, said that the plan was to continue to control the country's treasure, which the military had been doing for the past 40 years.

According to him, for decades the military establishment had strived to protect its own hegemony in the polity of the nation and by so doing had succeeded in plundering the economy.

He said that it was from these looted funds that the retired military officers had continued to buy power and had turn the presidency into a relay race for themselves.

He asked: 'Should we Nigerians continue to be slaves in the hands of these military guys," adding, 'though they claim to be in the civil society, they are goats in sheep skins."

While calling on the president to resign, Watyil said that the lots of Nigerians had continued to dwindle since the administration came into power in 1999.

'Nigerians are disenchanted and disillusioned by the drama in governance. Nigerians are not knowing whether or not the following day would be any better, because the PDP administration has performed below average, both in the areas of democratic experimentation, accountability, transparency, basic infrastructure, leader-people relationship, basic needs and the general welfare of the masse," Watyil said.

The AD chairman, who tasked the presidency on transparency, asked him to cough out the money used in hosting the political reform conference since the National Assembly did not approve it.
