Residents send SOS to Obasanjo

Residents of Oyebo community in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos State have accused Power Holding of Nigeria (formerly NEPA) of carting away their transformer, thereby putting them in total blackout since the past eight months.

Residents of Oyebo community in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos State have accused Power Holding of Nigeria (formerly NEPA) of carting away their transformer, thereby putting them in total blackout since the past eight months.

The residents, who operate under the aegis of Oyebo 1 Consumers Residents Association, told Daily Sun that officials of the company came to take away their 500 K.V.A transformer in January on the pretext that it was bad and that it would be replaced within a month.
Regrettably, the Chairman of the Association, Mr. Abuchi Nwakwe, said that the transformer has not been replaced up till now, stressing that there was nothing wrong with it as at the time the officials took it away.

He further stated that the ugly development had paralysed businesses and other economic activities in the area, adding that the residents had made several attempt to retrieve the transformer, but to no avail.
“We have gone to see Engr. Abubakar Abdul Karrem, the Senior Manager and Engr. Adewale Ademayowa the PRO in Festac, who referred us to Engr. E. Umore, the business manager also in Festac. He asked us to make it official, which we did. After waiting for a whole month for something to be done, we then took it to Marina, Eko zone, where we met the Assistant Chief operations officer, who now told us that there was no transformer.

“And instead of attending to our case, he asked us to go and make photocopies of our previous bills. Which we knew was just to punish us because they have people who operate their computers and they can retrieve whatever information they want as per our accounts.”

Buttressing the chairman’s position, Elder Abel Adeyemi, the treasurer also claimed that the total darkness has paved way for hoodlums and armed robbery attacks on residents.
“We want President Obasanjo and NEPA Managing Director to help us, we are tired of living like villagers in Lagos”.

This is a great piece of history, which is dear to our hearts as people and very much appreciated.

Many thanks to the people who worked hard in the past and those who are still making efforts to keep the institution.

The labour is obviouly worth it. We are proud of you all.

A lot still to be done, with the motivation of the champions of this course, others will follow as well to maintain the institution

May God continue to keep the edifice for development of future generations to the glory of God and the benefits of our fatherland.
