Appropriation Act: Ali meets senate leadership


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday waded into the seeming face-off between the Senate and the president over non-implementation of the Appropriation Act 2005.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday waded into the seeming face-off between the Senate and the president over non-implementation of the Appropriation Act 2005.

It was gathered that the party chairman, Ahmadu Ali, who summoned an emergency meeting of the leadership of the National Assembly, told the senate leadership to stay action while it will open discussions with the president as soon as possible.

The meeting, which lasted almost five hours, held behind closed doors with all the principal officers of the senate in attendance.
Senate president, Ken Nnamani, refused to give details of their discussions.
He only said: "We had a fruitful discussion and we discussed issues that bother on the well being of the party."

On whether the problem over the non-implementation of the 2005 Appropriation Act was discussed, Nnamani answered: "Yes, something like that." A reliable source told Daily Sun that the senators had told the PDP leaders to warn the president that they will not tolerate any form of interference in their bills by the president after they had finished work on them.The senators were said to have also complained that the practice where the president cancels their bill without considering its consequence or even consulting with the law makers is unacceptable.

Ali, PDP's national chairman, was said to have appealed to the law makers to give him time to talk with the president and will get back to them..
