AIG Ajao turns owl … To battle criminals

The task of keeping criminals at bay in Lagos, appears to have turned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone Two, Mr. Israel Ajao into an owl.

The task of keeping criminals at bay in Lagos, appears to have turned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone Two, Mr. Israel Ajao into an owl.

After his successful tenure as Commissioner of Police in Ogun and Lagos states, during which he broke the back of several gangs, bust a human trafficking ring to set scores of enslaved children free, and ended an era of cross border robbery, one would have expected Ajao's motion to slacken like a train that is approaching its destination, when he became AIG. But for the workaholic officer, the beat goes on.

Ajao has been going on frequent night patrols and this has earned him a commendation from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The AIG was on his beat one midnight when a distress call came from some WHO officials that their office at 443 Herbert Macaulay Street, Yaba was under attack by armed robbers. And within five minutes the AIG's men were there.

Impressed by the quick response, WHO thereafter sent Ajao a letter of commendation.

Other cases where the night owl had stayed awake coordinating the onslaught on robbers included the recent raid at a supermarket in Okota and the Fountain Trust Bank, on Itire Road in Lagos.

He also visited the Olabisi Onabanjo University at Ago Iwoye with the Ogun State Police Commissioner, Mr. Tunji Alapini when students and indigenes of the town were engaged in a bloody fight.

Daily Sun learnt that the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero has given senior officers strict directives that there must be no embarrassing incident in their areas.
