Groups in bloody clash over Oba's anniversary

Pandemonium broke out yesterday at Mushin area of Lagos State after some supporters of the Oba of Mushin, and some miscreants engaged themselves in a bloody clash that disrupted commercial and business activities in the ever busy area.

LAGOS—Pandemonium broke out yesterday at Mushin area of Lagos State after some supporters of the Oba of Mushin, and some miscreants engaged themselves in a bloody clash that disrupted commercial and business activities in the ever busy area.

Several persons were reportedly injured while scampering for safety and vehicles damaged as both sides reportedly used dangerous weapons.

Trouble, reports said, erupted when supporters of the Oba of Mushin, Olu Irawo, were pasting his 25th anniversary posters in the environs. But on getting to Ojuwoye and Atewolara area along the Agege motor road, some miscreants otherwise called area boys were said to have halted the exercise , demanding that they be given some token before being allowed to paste the posters.

A heated argument followed as the Oba’s supporters who were infuriated, saw the demand as an affront, claiming that the area boys had no right to challenge them since they were also to an extent answerable to the Oba.

A free-for-all fight was said to have ensued in the process, with the area boys gaining an upper hand. But a re-inforcement of the Oba’s supporters reports said arrived the scene brandishing dangerous weapons such as broken bottles, cutlasses, clubs, knives, charms and amulets with which they inflicted injuries on their opponents.

It however took the intervention of policemen from Mushin division to bring the situation under temporary control, as barely had they left that both sides reportedly continued the fight.

When contacted, the Lagos State Public Relations officer, Mr Olubode Ojajuni said normalcy had returned to the war zone as the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Adewole Ajakaye immediately ordered a joint operation of both Mobile and conventional policemen that was led by the the Area ‘D’ Commander to flush out the area boys .

Many thanks to the people who worked hard in the past and those who are still making efforts to keep the institution.

The labour is obviouly worth it. We are proud of you all.

A lot still to be done, with the motivation of the champions of this course, others will follow as well to maintain the institution

May God continue to keep the edifice for development of future generations to the glory of God and the benefits of our fatherland.
