Pioneer Chairman of the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Ukasanya has called on the Federal Government to declare Abia state capital Umuahia and a major town in the state, Aba epidemic-prone areas because of the heaps of refuse over the two towns which are now threatening the health of residents.

Speaking at the weekend, Ukasanya said the call became necessary because the people are now endangered as the state government has failed to clear the refuse.
"I am calling on President Olusegun Obasanjo to come to our aid because the situation is bad. Refuse is now competing for space with people in Aba. When rain falls, everywhere is flooded because of unclear drainage. It is a clear case of a failed government", he stated.
The PDP chieftain also said that road projects which the state government claimed to have executed are in a bad state because they were either poorly done or not done at all.
He added that the government has glaringly shown that it is short of lofty ideas and lacked the capacity to move the state to greater heights as envisioned by its founding fathers.
Ukasanya further stated that the State Governor, Chief Orji Kalu has shown that he lacked the will and capability to address the issue adding that lately he is more interested in the pursuit of his presidential dream which he described as a wild goose chase.
"If you visit Aba, you will see what I am saying. There are heaps of refuse everywhere. And epidemic is staring us in the face. We don't seem to have government in my state.
The people are not feeling the impact of government positively. Governance has been suspended since Kalu began his illusive presidential bid", he said.
