Part of Works Ministry must be pulled down, says El-Rufai


MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory and Chairman, Board of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai yesterday, put to rest speculations on whether the building housing the Federal Ministry of Works will be pulled down by the development control bulldozers when he said the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has concluded arrangements to pull down one of the blocks.

ABUJA - MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory and Chairman, Board of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai yesterday, put to rest speculations on whether the building housing the Federal Ministry of Works will be pulled down by the development control bulldozers when he said the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has concluded arrangements to pull down one of the blocks.

Mallam El-Rufai who noted that there was nothing one could do to help the situation, said the block is right on the interchange, just as he said the Ministry of Works, situated at Mabushi was aware of the development as they have prepared for the exercise.

" One of the blocks will go because it is right on the interchange, we tried to save the situation, but there is nothing one can do, the ministry is aware of it and they have prepared for it'', he said.

In a similar development, the FCT minister has expressed his disappointment over the slow pace at which the contractor handling the construction of the Garki General Hospital.

Speaking during a visit to the hospital to assess the level of work going on, Mallam El-Rufai who noted that the FCT administration was not any way indebted to the contactor, wondered why for two and half years, Ms Devilar Nig. Limited, the firm handling the project cannot complete the work, warning that the company must within the next few months complete the job or hence, he may revoke the contract, just as he said the FCTA has concluded plans to renovate the Nyanya Hospital which is overstretched and dilapidated.

"I think it is a big disappointment, we have been on it for two and half years. The project is two years behind completion. We have paid the contractor as at when due, I think it is the contractor's internal problem or incompetence", he said.
